The town has recently built a new rain garden, located next to New Hope Academy on Varnum Street.
Rain gardens are used to temporarily retain rainwater in order to improve the water quality by removing chemicals, nutrients, or other sediments in the water. This helps improve the water quality in nearby bodies of water. It also helps give quality water to plants rather than having bad-quality water runoff into stormwater drains and negatively impacting other larger bodies of water.
Rain gardens are filled with native plants that have adapted to thriving in the area. A double bonus for having a rain garden is that it serves as a mini pollinator garden.

Electric Car-Charging Stations
If you own an electric car that needs a charge, you’re in luck. Right in the town hall’s parking lot is an electric charging station. This station is free for anyone to use!
Little Free Libraries
There are three little free libraries located in town. One is located at the Veteran’s Memorial Park, another is in front of the town hall, and the third is located on the corner of 70th and Beall Street. It's free for everyone to use. Each little library comes with a serial code on the back that you can enter online to see a map of all the other little free libraries around the world!

Forest Path
The forest path is a hidden gem in the community. It is located right next to the town hall, right behind the playground. It is relatively small but it feels like you’re not in Landover Hills anymore! It has magnificently tall trees and greenery all around. There’s even some wildlife friends like deer. If you want to get in touch with nature for a bit, this is the place to go.
There is a bioretention area located right next to the town hall and is essentially a giant rain garden. This bioretention center was built to catch runoff stormwater from the parking lot.

Landover Hills was one of the first towns in Maryland to implement these pet waste stations. There are 10 stations located throughout town, each equipped with doggie bags and disposal bins below. They’re free to use, and helps keep the town healthier and cleaner.

There are two sets of big belly trash cans. One set is located in the playground by the town hall and the other set is located at 71st Ave. and Annapolis Road. These big belly trash cans aren’t just any trash cans, they’re also sustainable and environmentally friendly! They have a built in compactor to make space for more trash, solar panels on top for their energy source, and a way to communicate with (trash company) when it is full and needs to be taken out.
